I have just returned from Taunton Flower Show, where I was delighted and suprised to have been given the award for the Best Presented Craft Stand.
Established in 1831, Taunton is the oldest Flower Show in England, and being in my adopted home county of Somerset, it is an honour to have taken part and to have received this award. The judges particularly loved the late Summer, early Autumn theme of my stand; I had great fun preparing everything for the display, although must admit to it being rather challenging to set it up in the rather stiffling heat of a hot marquee (the show fell in the midst of the mini heat wave we have just had in the South West). However, determined to do my best and in particular wishing to contribute a joyful array for the lovely folks of Taunton and beyond I awoke early in the morning and drove across the quietly awakening Somerset Levels so I could continue working in the much cooler early hours.
Having exhibited for several years at Taunton, the days flew by as many familiar faces came to say hello, browse through my work, and admire the details in the display (thank you so much for all the lovely compliments), I had forgotten all about the award and was completely stunned when the judges came round in the afternoon to present it - to say my jaw was on the floor is not an understatement!
Back at base I will look for a nice gold frame in which to mount the award, and am already thinking about possible themes for next year's show.
